The bustling halls of Barcelona’s Gran Via venue recently concluded the sixth edition of the Barcelona Cybersecurity Congress (BCC), an event jointly organized by Fira de Barcelona and the Agència de Ciberseguretat de Catalunya (ACC). The congress underscored the escalating strategic significance of cybersecurity across both business and industrial sectors, emphasizing its crucial role in fostering a safer and more resilient digital ecosystem. Sharing space and synergy with the ninth edition of the IoT Solutions World Congress (IOTSWC), these twin events together attracted a diverse global audience, including more than 260 exhibitors from 30 different countries and over 100 national and international expert speakers.
With 68 exhibitors in attendance at the cybersecurity congress, leading global names such as Crowdstrike, EY, Fortinet, FTI Consulting, ManageEngine, SentinelOne, Sosafe, and Threatlocker demonstrated their cutting-edge technologies and solutions tailored to thwart cyber threats. These presentations underscored a universal call to action, pushing forward the critical importance of cybersecurity preparedness and awareness, especially as businesses navigate increasingly complex and interconnected digital landscapes.
The congress’s extensive program, filled with thought-provoking conferences, interactive talks, and informative presentations, largely focused on pressing topics, such as the European directive NIS2—an ambitious regulation designed to reinforce cybersecurity measures across the entire EU—and the rapid evolution and applications of Artificial Intelligence and quantum cryptography. Quantum cryptography, an emerging technology leveraging photons to secure data transmission against intrusion, attracted significant interest, highlighting the dynamic, future-oriented nature of cybersecurity practices today.
Complementing the main agenda, the BCC featured the lively and highly engaging Hacking Village, a dedicated space designed to educate visitors through practical demonstrations, ethical hacking competitions, and workshops intended to enhance cybersecurity preparedness and vigilance. This hands-on environment proved particularly effective, drawing attention to real-world applications and highlighting how proactive defensive strategies can significantly mitigate cyber threats.
Roger Bou, Director of both the BCC and IOTSWC, reinforced the message that cybersecurity and digital transformation are now indispensable to the modern business landscape. He pointed out that events of this caliber are essential for fostering meaningful international collaboration and successfully driving forward necessary technological adoption on a global scale. Similarly, Laura Caballero, Director of the Agència de Ciberseguretat de Catalunya, noted a substantial 20% increase in activity compared to the previous year, encompassing both professional meetings and networking opportunities. The contacts established at the event, according to Caballero, were not only more numerous but of greater strategic value, indicating the congress’s effectiveness in forging impactful collaborations. The innovative use of an immersive escape room demo to educate and engage the public further illustrated the congress’s commitment to accessible cybersecurity education, receiving highly enthusiastic responses from participants.
Parallel to the cybersecurity focus, the IoT Solutions World Congress displayed a robust showcase with 201 exhibitors, including noteworthy companies like AG Solution, Avanci, Edge Impulse, Emnify, STMicroelectronics, Orange Empresas, and associations such as the LoRa Alliance. The event effectively spotlighted how IoT technologies, especially those driven by Artificial Intelligence, are rapidly accelerating the digital transformation in various industrial sectors. Prominent among the exhibitors was the Free Trade Zone Consortium, emphasizing its DFactory initiative aimed at propelling industry 4.0 innovations. Notably, significant participation from Chinese enterprises, particularly a collective showcasing from the city of Yuhang in Hangzhou province, signaled China’s growing influence and interest in global IoT solutions.
Additionally, the congress featured a StartUp Pavilion that provided exposure and networking opportunities to twenty emergent companies, highlighting fresh and innovative solutions poised to impact the IoT and industrial sectors profoundly. Concluding the events, the prestigious Industry Solutions Awards celebrated and recognized the industry’s top innovations, adding another layer of significance to the already rich program.
Together, the two congresses welcomed an impressive crowd of over 10,000 professionals representing 105 countries, confirming Barcelona’s role as an international hub for cybersecurity expertise and innovation in digital transformation.
