Kontron and Exein have struck a partnership that signals a major shift in how cybersecurity is embedded into the very foundation of industrial and IoT systems. At its core, the collaboration integrates Exein’s runtime security directly into Kontron’s platforms, ensuring that KontronOS and KontronAIShield are no longer just operating systems or monitoring tools but full-fledged defensive environments. This means the protection is not layered on top of existing infrastructure as an afterthought but is instead built into the system fabric from the start, with AI-driven threat detection and real-time mitigation woven into device operations.
The timing is particularly significant. Data released in July showed global cyberattacks rose by 21% in Q2 2025 compared to the previous year, with Europe registering the sharpest increase. For Kontron’s 3,000-plus customers across more than 20 countries—ranging from manufacturing and energy to healthcare, automotive, and critical infrastructure—the integration offers both practical defense and regulatory compliance. With the EU’s Radio Equipment Directive (RED 3.3) already being enforced since August, and the EU Cyber Resilience Act set to phase in by September 2026 before reaching full force in December 2027, this partnership ensures that Kontron’s ecosystem is future-proofed against the next wave of regulatory demands.
The voices of leadership underline the strategic intent. Stefan Eberhardt of Kontron Europe highlights that the approach goes beyond conventional antivirus frameworks, embedding resilience into every product regardless of whether it’s a new build (greenfield) or retrofit (brownfield). Gianni Cuozzo, CEO of Exein, frames it as a defining moment for European cybersecurity, positioning the continent not as a follower but as a leader in securing the hyper-connected future. The message is clear: this is not simply a bilateral partnership but a European answer to global cybersecurity threats, combining industrial expertise with advanced runtime protection.
What makes this announcement particularly impactful is its broader market signal. By making Exein’s technology a standard feature rather than an optional add-on, Kontron is effectively setting a new benchmark in IoT and embedded systems security. The move redefines expectations for the industry, where resilience and compliance are now inseparable from product value. For enterprises facing exponential attack surfaces, this combination of edge-to-cloud protection is likely to be seen as both a competitive differentiator and a trust enabler in an era where cybersecurity is no longer negotiable.
