Astra Security, the innovative security platform that has been redefining vulnerability scanning and penetration testing since its inception in 2018, has successfully closed a growth capital round led by Emergent Ventures with strong participation from Neon Fund, Better Capital, Blume Ventures, and PointOne Capital. This latest infusion of capital will accelerate the company’s development efforts and enhance its capabilities in uncovering vulnerabilities within cloud environments, while also bolstering its commitment to integrating artificial intelligence into the security space. Over the past year, the platform’s AI-powered pentest engine uncovered nearly 5,500 vulnerabilities per day, a figure anticipated to triple by year’s end as the rapid pace of code deployment expands the attack surface available to hackers, who are increasingly employing AI to find loopholes at scale. Co-founder and CEO Shikhil Sharma has emphasized that the current threat landscape, marked by the complexity of AI-based attacks, necessitates a shift away from traditional, periodic pentesting towards a continuous model that better aligns with the agile and automated practices prevalent in modern software engineering.
The platform, which now supports over 800 engineering teams across more than 70 countries, leverages AI to replicate hacker behavior and conduct a range of security assessments that include Penetration Testing as a Service (PTaaS), dynamic application security testing, and comprehensive API security evaluations. This multifaceted approach has enabled Astra Security to detect over 13,000 vulnerabilities, and last year alone, the company’s solutions facilitated the discovery and prioritization of remediation for over two million vulnerabilities. Co-founder and CTO Ananda Krishna has observed that as security responsibilities increasingly shift towards developers and security teams face mounting pressure, traditional pentesting methods are proving inadequate. Drawing on more than a decade of hands-on experience—having previously collaborated with industry leaders such as Microsoft, Adobe, AT&T, Yahoo, and Blackberry—the founders have imbued the platform with a hacker’s mindset and an unwavering dedication to simplicity and accessibility in cybersecurity.
Astra Security’s rapid advancement and recent growth round underscore the industry’s strong confidence in its forward-thinking approach, as evidenced by an impressive client roster that includes companies like Loom, HackerRank, ITC, Olx Autos, Mamaearth, Muthoot Finance, Bonusly Singapore Trade Exchange, Oscilar, the University of Cambridge, CompTIA, and Prime Healthcare. The company’s continued focus on blending AI innovation with robust, continuous security monitoring stands as a testament to its mission to transform how businesses defend against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. This strategic initiative not only highlights Astra Security’s role in reshaping cybersecurity practices but also positions it at the forefront of the next wave of digital defense, where proactive vulnerability management is critical to staying ahead in a dynamic and ever-evolving threat environment.
